King County Partners with Sawatch Labs to Electrify Its Fleet
Largest Washington State County Takes Historic Step Towards Reaching Zero Emissions Goals
DENVER, COLORADO – April 10, 2022— King County, Washington has made a historic move towards expanding its fleet electrification by partnering with Sawatch Labs. Known for their expertise in providing data-driven charging infrastructure planning software and optimizing fleet performance, Sawatch Labs is a renowned company in their field. This partnership is instrumental in helping King County transition its non-revenue fleets to zero-emission vehicles, a move that aligns with Washington state’s mission to run on a fully electric state-owned fleet by 2040.
Sawatch Labs CEO Matthew Helm said the following about this exciting partnership: “Our mission at Sawatch Labs is to provide our clients with actionable insights into their fleet operations so they can make informed decisions about how best to move forward. We’re thrilled to partner with King County on this important transition and look forward to helping them achieve their goal to reduce emissions and properly plan charging infrastructure while also optimizing their operations.”
The transition process will be an extensive one, requiring careful planning and execution from both sides of the partnership. Transitioning the entire King County Metro fleet requires a comprehensive understanding of the daily charging requirements for each individual vehicle and aggregate charging demand at every facility, which Sawatch Labs is uniquely positioned to provide through its detailed EV analytics and right-sizing software.
Once all necessary data has been collected and analyzed, King County Metro will receive detailed energy demand projections for each EVSE site location. These projections will allow King County to determine the optimal number and type of chargers needed in the near and long-terms. This process to install charging infrastructure and increase deployment of EVs will take time, but it is expected that it will result in significant reductions in emissions as well as increased efficiency and cost savings.
The partnership between King County and Sawatch Labs is an important step towards reducing emissions from public transportation services across Washington state and beyond. By leveraging data-driven insights combined with expert advice from Sawatch Labs, King County can ensure that their transition to zero emission vehicles is done in a way that not only meets its environmental goals but also optimizes operational performance ultimately saving tax payer money.
