Our Biggest Takeaways from the Geotab Connect 2024 Conference

At Sawatch Labs, we’re passionate about optimizing fleet vehicle management efforts through advanced data analytics. We make a concerted effort to find opportunities to connect with industry professionals so we can not only share our own insights but learn more about emerging trends and technologies.

Mary Till and David Fuchs from our Business Development team, along with Brandon Hadden and Andrew Cook from our Customer Success team, attended Geotab Connect 2024 in Las Vegas this past February. The three-day conference focused on sharing data-driven fleet maintenance strategies and understanding how fleets and providers can solve upcoming business challenges.

Below are some of our biggest takeaways from this exciting event.

Sustainability Still Commands the Spotlight

The Geotab Connect 2024 Conference showed that sustainability remains top of mind for fleets across the world. Mounting pressure to comply with regulations and enticing incentives for decarbonization have created the need for a unified sustainability approach. Geotab’s Sustainability Alliance Program aims to fill that need.

The Sustainability Alliance Program connects fleets with various vendors who offer solutions to improve the efficiency and sustainability of fleets. As a proud alliance partner, Sawatch Labs joins other service providers in delivering a powerful set of comprehensive tools and services for improving sustainability. The Sustainability Alliance supports organizations looking to streamline their sustainability efforts by providing:

  • EV planning software solutions

  • Electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) optimization

  • Electricity and fuel management

  • Fleet rightsizing and suitability assessments

The Rise of Benchmarking Data and Predictive Analytics

A traffic accident is one of the most devastating events a fleet can experience. In an effort to curtail potential accidents, benchmarking and predictive analytics have become more ingrained in the Geotab platform. Applications like Safety Center enable fleet managers to assess risk among their drivers and take preventative action. By using peer-fleet benchmarking and objective data, organizations gain valuable insight into hazardous driver behavior. The data allows fleet managers to see how their fleets stack up against similar fleets, as well as accurately identify risk among individual vehicles in their own fleets.

There’s An Increased Demand for Camera Integration

Telematics can help thwart thieves by tracking stolen vehicles, but this year’s conference noted the rise of another important accountability tool—cameras. With several marketplace partners offering camera integrations, we predict increased adoption in the coming years. When cameras work alongside vehicle telematics, they present an opportunity to, quite literally, create a more complete picture of your operations.

Other benefits of incorporating cameras and sensors into your fleet include:

  • Performance insight to guide driver coaching

  • Capture risky events, such as cell phone use and tailgating

  • Provide video evidence following an accident

  • Immediate detection of imminent collisions

AI-Powered Telematics Technology is the Future

It’s only a matter of time before AI becomes woven into our everyday lives, and at this year’s conference, Geotab announced its latest contribution to the field. Geotab Ace, the company’s new AI assistant, will soon be leveraged as a tool to help fleet professionals gain insights into everyday operations. The generative AI platform will utilize natural language to provide quick access to data intelligence.
